Dickson’s celebrates 100 years in business.
Our Story begins with David Dickson who had a passion for engineering from a very young age. As a young and enthusiastic entrepreneur his first big venture was to design and build the Dickson Caravan. This set him on his business journey into the Engineering world.
In 1924, an idea was born to start a company in the Automotive Industry. He borrowed £5 from a friend and travelled to London and secured his first agency. He set up shop, and commenced trading at 1A Fleet Street, Dublin 1.
David believed that being skilled in your field of expertise is the key to success and this policy has been the companies guiding principle throughout our history.
Retiring in 1970 and handing the business into the safe hands of his sons Roy and Derek, their combined Passion and drive in turn moved the business forward, creating an opportunity to move into the industrial world and the Bearings and Transmissions side of the business was born. The two brothers expanded the business over the years and moved from Talbot St to Portland Place and then into The Rowan Seed premises on North Circular Road. The Company has grown from strength to strength having added a substantial range of high-quality manufacturers to the portfolio.
David would have been delighted that his two grandsons, John & Ian have successfully taken over the running of the company thus ensuring the family business has entered its third Generation. Further expansion led to a move to purpose built premises in a key location off the M50 back in 2001, where the company still resides.
Our staff’s commitment to our customers has always been a key ingredient in our longevity. Their passion to provide the best service has been important to our success. In Dickson’s we all strive to give our customers reliability.
Throughout the years we have always partnered with best in class manufacturers. We are distributors for the some of the best known global brands in bearings, lubrication and power transmission including SKF, Kluber, NTN, Diamond, Contitech, Sumitomo and TEC Motors. All these brands and others, add value to Dickson’s reputation as technical problem solvers as well as being able to provide 24/7 product availability to Irish industry. This has given our customers very reliable products. Our passion for the latest technology has always been a huge part or our success in keeping up to date with new ideas.
Today we provide a distribution service to all the counties in Ireland from our Finglas Warehouse facility, Dickson’s also provide a high level of technical product knowledge and support for customers, to enable them to obtain the optimum in product life. The Company has embraced periods of change to keep up with the 21st century to provide our customers with the best products and service.
In recent years we have developed our reliability services to complement our product range and give our customers the very best service. We provide a range of Reliability Services which includes vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography and lubrication services. Dickson’s are working closely with Irish industry to minimise the total cost of operations (TCO).
